Critiques: The student will identify two original scholarly research articles related to their field of interest, one qualitative and one quantitative study.

Each critique must be formatted as:

• Typed, three pages or less (TOTAL)
• Double spaced
• 12 point Times New Roman
• 1 inch margins on each side and 1 inch margins at the top and bottom

Please submit a photocopy of both articles with each critique.

For each critique please report the following:

The Research Problem

• What is the health problem being investigated?
• Using scientific reasoning, why is this problem important?
• What are the implications of the proposed research? (How will society benefit from the proposed research?)
• How comprehensive is the literature review?
• What is the primary research question?
• What is one major research hypothesis?
• Name and define the main operational definitions used in the study.
• What are the human participant protections/ ethics of the proposed research?

Research Design and Methods

• Who is the study population?
• Is the study sample generalizable?
• How was the sample obtained? (identify the sample design and methods)
• What biases exist in sample selection?
• What is the research design of the study?
• Name and describe the research instruments.
• Describe reliability and validity of the instruments.
• Describe the study methods.
• Describe alternative study methods.

Results and Discussion

• How are data analyzed?
• How are data presented?
• Is this method of presentation effective and accurate?
• Are conclusions supported by the study results?
• What are the implications of the research findings for practice?
• What are the implications of the research findings for future research?
• What are the limitations of the study?
