Purpose: To analyze a visual or written argument related to your topic
Assignment: Using the criteria laid out in Chapter 8: Analyzing Arguments:
- Identify a visual or written argument that is related to your topic.Particularly be on the lookout for arguments that seem to be particularly persuasive, even if they are not personally persuasive to you. In other words, you are looking for the type of ad, op-ed piece, meme, blog post, etc., that others might be familiar with or be engaged by in relation to your topic.
- Analyze the argument in terms of the criteria laid out the chapter (Author or Creator; Purpose; Audience; Setting; Message; Genre, Medium, and Design.)
- Based on your review of these criteria, write a thorough analysis of the argument you have chosen, closing with an evaluation of the overall persuasiveness, appropriateness, and effectiveness of the argument.
Your paper should be well-written and engaging, and include an introduction, a thesis, a logical progression between the paragraphs, and a conclusion.It will be assessed based on how thoroughly the assignment is completed, its organization, and your own voice and written eloquence in the piece.
