Question Description

1-Crime analysts are responsible for gathering data and formulating crime data. If I was tasked for explaining crime programs, my first step would be to compile a list of all of the data. “The qualitative and quantitative study of crime and law enforcement information in combination with socio-demographic and spatial factors to apprehend criminals, prevent crime, reduce disorder, and evaluate organizational procedures” (Boba, 2001). My next step would be to decipher which method of research would best suit my program for explaining crime programs. In choosing qualitative or quantitative research depends on how the data will be compiled and how the research question will be posed. “Examples of law enforcement data that are often available for crime analysts are calls for service (e.g., noise complaints, burglary alarms, suspicious activity), traffic information (e.g., accidents and citations), citizens’ perceptions (e.g., fear of crime, crime prevention behavior, satisfaction with the police), victimization, probation records, and parole information” (Boba, 2001). After compiling the data and choosing a method of research I will than pose my research question. Next, the experiment will be attempted with a population group to observe if crime can decrease with specific crime programs. Data will then be compiled and compared among previous data to form a conclusion based on the results of said experiment.

2-The fundamental characteristic of research is to use scientific methods to obtain evidence and produce results in said proposal of research (Byrne, 2017). That aside, to prepare to start my research, I would come up with the topic of my research, followed by looking into the research that has already been conducted on said subject. According to Byrne (2017), the next step would be to formulate a research question and possibly conduct a hypothesis therein to prove validity for said research. Thereafter the step would be to create a plan and project to conduct my research, followed by the being able to ascertain if this type of research is ethical to conduct. This is when I would used the methods created in my plan to obtain data to proceed with my research project.

3-When preparing for reseach, the formation of a research questions is the first step. This can often be one the more challenging parts of conducting research. This is because formulating a researchable research questions that is clear and makes sense to why it needs to be researched is more challenging. One thing that is helpful when forming the research questions is different literature in research (Bachman & Schutt, 2020). The determination of the type of research as well, such as figuring out if it going to be qualitative or quantitative research. Once that is determined, it is the rest of the project just needing to be put together. Subjects if needed are to be interviewed and selected for the research topic and observations are to be taken to note everything involving the project.
