Chamberlain College Culture of Academic Integrity Reply Paper

The culture of academic integrity is up held in Chamberlain’s RN-BSN program by requiring all nursing students to complete a student attestation prior to the start of each course. We are also encouraged to view videos regarding what standards the students are held to. We are adults who are expected to adhere to the rules that govern the program that impact our professional integrity. We can promote academic integrity within ourselves and our classmates by completing our own work and properly citing sources to avoid plagiarism. Also, by having good time management skills to make sure all of our works is completed by the proper deadlines – reading the required chapters and online lessons, engaging with other classmates in the weekly discussions and having our first post completed by Wednesday. All of this will help us to stay abreast of the class course load to avoid becoming overwhelmed, which could potentially lead to academic dishonesty. Running out of the time needed to complete an assignment correctly or study for an exam adequately is the most common reason students give for cheating (Huston, 2020). According to this website, 73% of students admitted to academic cheating either by purchasing a term and/or text paper, paying someone to take a test or using notes when instructed not to. Academic dishonesty is a problem both online and on campus – 33% admitted to cheating in online classes and 2% of those students were caught. Students who want to cheat will continue to cheat online or in a traditional classroom while students who want to learn and better themselves know that cheating won’t help with long term goals.
