Salvador Dalí: A Master of the Modern Era. MIKOS ARTS – A Documentary for educational purposes only (Links to an external site.)
For this week’s discussion, we get to watch a fantastic video on Salvador Dali, famed Surrealist and eccentric! This video is a crowd pleaser and sure to keep you entertained! Before you view the link, make sure to preview the questions below- it may be helpful to take notes as you watch the video.
After you watch the video, tell us (in this numbered prompt):
- Define Surrealism is your own words (avoid dictionary.com at all costs). How do the images you chose directly relate to the definition of surrealism?
- How do YOU take in art in entertainment? In what forms? Media? TV, computer games? Reading? Magazines?
- How does surrealism intersect with the art that you take in? In greater society (media)?
- Is surrealism all around us? How so?
- Provide 3 examples of surrealism in 2019. Use images from the world at large.
- How do you think Dali influenced artists of the future, or was he just a crazy man with a rad mustache?
Things to Do:
- Think about what the word surreal means, how is this visually expressed through the images you chose?
- Have fun with this. Art can be silly or dream-like or irrational.
- Look around in your own life, your own stuff, is any of it surreal? For example, my daughter has a clothes hanger in her closet that is made in the shape of a human femur. It’s weird…she’s nine-years-old…I love it.
Things not to do:
- Do not choose the first image the comes up on a Google image search of “Surrealism” (I’ve seen them all before).
- Do not wait until the last minute.
- Do not share screen captures of Fortnite, it’s not surreal enough 🙂
Enjoy the Video!
