TWO PARTS

You are investigating a gang-related carjacking. You have the description of the vehicle and also a description of the suspects.

Vehicle information: 1999 green-colored 4-door Honda Civic with California license plate # ABC1234

Suspect # 1 description: White male juvenile, 15-17 years-old, shoulder-length, wavy blond hair. He was wearing a green tee-shirt that had a marijuana leaf on it. He had a tattoo of a marijuana leaf of hid left forearm. He was holding a black-colored semiautomatic pistol during the incident. He told the victim, “Give me your car or I will shoot you dead.” He got into the driver’s seat of the victim’s vehicle and drove the car away eastbound.

Suspect # 2 description: Hispanic male juvenile 15-16 years old, short-cropped brown hair. He was wearing blue-colored jeans. He held a machete and did not say anything. He got into the back seat of the car.

PART 1: Choose a strategy used by the police to enlist the help of the public in the identification and apprehension of criminals. These strategies include tip lines, television shows, AMBER Alerts, Confidential Informants, and others. Once you choose an investigative strategy, discuss the benefits and limitations of that strategy.

PART 2: Locate a case through use of the Internet that provide details about a specific case where this strategy was used. Describe where you located the information and then summarize the case and investigative strategies. Discuss your thoughts on how it helped further the investigation, if it did at all. If improvement was needed, explain what could have been done better.
