Answer the question below.
Question Description
we are going to use the Ping command to ascertain the Round Trip Time (RTT) between a computer and a host on the Internet.
And are going to utilize this web version
https://network-tools.com/ping/
(Can also access through a Windows command prompt and here is a description from Netgear
https://kb.netgear.com/989/Testing-network-connectivity-with-ping
The objective of the assignment is to graph and compare the RTTs to selected hosts with the time for light to travel the same distance (please use 186,282 miles per second for the speed of light).
- For the assignment determine the RTT for each of the following
Stanford University – Stanford.edu
University of Alaska Anchorage uaa.alaska.edu
University of Hawaii – hawaii.edu
Cambridge University cam.ac.uk
University of North Carolina unc.edu
University of Chicago uchicago.edu
University of Cape Town uct.ac.za
Virginia Tech vt.edu
University of Kyoto Kyoto-u.ac.jp
National University of San Marcos – unmsm.edu.pe
Please provide a table of results.
2. And then calculate the distance to these universities from Fairfax using one of the distance calculators available on the Internet.
Please provide your results.
3. Calculate the round trip time for light to travel to and from Fairfax to each of the universities (in ms – milliseconds).
Please provide the results.
4. Plot a graph using Excel (or another graphing program) with City Distance from Fairfax on the x axis and the ratio of RTT and the round trip time for light to travel to and from the university on the y axis.
5. Why do the ratios (y values) have the magnitudes that they do (whey are they not 1.0)? Please provide three or four factors.
