Week 4 Assignment: Informal Proposal (See figure 10.2).

Write a 3-5 page informal proposal based on a recent or current workplace situation or problem. Include at least 1-2 sources from an academic database (Everglades online library databases). Informal proposals are short reports. Your informal proposal can be formatted as a memo or letter. The purpose of informal proposals varies: they can be internal proposals to management about changing a company policy, purchasing equipment, or adding new products and services. Proposals are written offers to solve problems, provide services, or sell equipment. Simply put, unlike most reports, proposals suggest ways to save, spend, or make money. Some proposals are like internal reports, taking the form of justification or recommendation reports.

Think about a current problem that exists in your workplace and create an informal proposal (see Figure 10.1) that proposes how the problem can be resolved. Your proposal can be internal or external. Effective proposals use persuasive language (see Ch. 8) and must (a) get the reader’s attention, (b) emphasize how your methods and products will benefit the reader, (c) showcase your expertise and build credibility, and (d) present ideas clearly and logically, making it easy for the reader to understand.

An informal proposal includes:

1. Introduction or description of the problem
2. Background information or a statement of need
3. Proposal benefits and schedule for completion
4. Staffing requirements
5. Budget analysis
6. Conclusion that may include an authorization request
