Identify a workaround (specific to technology used in a hospital setting) that you have used or perhaps seen someone else use, and analyze why you feel this risk-taking behavior was chosen over behavior that conforms to a safety culture. What are the risks? Are there benefits? Why or why not?
2. Discuss the current patient safety characteristics used by your current workplace or clinical site. Identify at least three aspects of your workplace or clinical environment that need to be changed with regard to patient safety (including confidentiality), and then suggest strategies for change.

This week’s focus is on patient safety and communication. In addition to answering the discussion question please answer the following in your initial post about Patient Safety and Confidentiality:

1. There are many opportunities with emerging technologies. What do you see as the possibilities to accelerate the generation and uptake of new nursing knowledge?
2. What challenges are there to protect patient confidentiality? How can you, as a nursing student, help protect patient confidentiality? How does confidentiality differ between a nursing student and a nurse?
3. How does technology affect the safety and confidentiality of a person’s information and records? What technological safety features are incorporated in your clinical setting or workplace?
