Question Description

A:

Protective Barriers:

Protective barriers are used to provide physical security from the threat. It defines the limits of an area or any activity happening around it.

Functions of Protective Barriers:

Barriers will restrict access to the highly secured facility without proper permission.

Protective Barriers can also sense the movement of the activities and detects the threat(s).

Protective Barriers will control vehicle traffic in the area.

Natural protective barriers are used in the hill stations, massive water flow places, and others.

Structural protective barriers are used to stop or block, which are used at the security posts.

Protective barriers only allow the vehicle or person inside the building after a proper ID check.

The collision energy absorption system was developed in the automobile industry to study the vehicle’s protective system (Wang, 2011).

Protective Barrier types: Fencing, Chain Link, Barbed Wire, Barbed Tape, Tangle-Foot wire, Security Gates, High feet walls, and many.

Parts of Combination Lock: Wheel Pack, Combination Dial, Spindle, Drive Cam, Drive Pin, and Wheel Fly.

How Combination lock works: 90% of locks use the pack of wheel. All the wheels are work simultaneously to know the code. Each lock has a combination dial which is connected to the spindle. The spindle depends on so many revolutions and the drive cam. The count of numbers in code is equal to the number of wheels. On each turn, the spindle rotates the drive cam. The Drive cam is attached to the drive pin. When the drive cam rotates, the drive pin makes a connection with the tab on the wheel known as wheel fly. The drive pin turns the first wheel until it makes a connection with the wheel next to it and goes till all the wheels in the system are rotating. This is known as picking up wheels. When the right code is entered, all the wheels on the spindle are lined up correctly. When the wrong combination is entered, the fence that is attached to the lever protects from opening the device. Once all wheels are in the proper position, forms a gap, fence falls on the gap in between, and opens the locker.

B:

Protective barriers focus on restricting, impeding, or channeling access, and they are as well completely merged to form a constant obstacle within the installation. The primary functions of the protective barriers include; (1) define the preceding physical boundaries or limits; (2) enable the security personnel to identify and capture an intruder; (3) delay or prevent forced entry; (4) provide entry-control points where security officers can check ID; (5) protect individual assets; (6) control pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow; (7) allow only authorized access to users and deny unauthorized access (Fennelly, 2013.

The most effective types of protective barriers are fences (barbed wire, concertina or barbed tape, and chain link), which help to impede, restrict, or channel access. Fences tend to check observation, serve as an obstacle to hand-thrown weapons, like firebombs, and act as a way to overcome standoff-weapon systems. Also, they help to develop additional barrier lines, offer adequate methods to physical security, and strengthen current fence height (Fennelly, 2013. For instance, barbered wires are designed to help prevent human trespassing.

Combination locks apply wheel packs, which are developed around the same standards to help determine the combination. The locks incorporate a combination dial, which is joined to a spindle (Fennelly, 2016). For the operator to operate a three-wheel combination lock, they turn the combination dial approximately four times in a single direction to enable all the available flies to engage their relevant wheels to help turn the dial, while each wheel is rotating with the dial. Inside the combination dial, the spindle runs through a drive cam and various wheels (Fennelly, 2016). When the operator turns the dial, they allow the spindle to turn the drive cam. The drive pin is attached to the drive cam. By turning the drive cam, the operator enables the drive pin to make contact with the wheel fly, a small tab located on the adjacent wheel. Another element of a combination lock is a fence, which prevents people from opening the safe door without dialing the combination (Valdes, n.d.). A gap is formed when all the wheels are aligned. This gap enables the lock hasp to loosen.
