DB 1; Business is Not Evil
In my opinion, business activity is inherently good. It is comprised of the communication and transference of goods and/or services to one another. People across time traded, bartered, etc. in order to obtain a good or service that they required in exchange of offering another good or service that is needed for the other part. In this sense, business activity is mutually beneficial to all parties involved. Another way to perceive business is that of a tool, and, unfortunately, a tools intended use and its common application are sometimes two very different things. Sadly, mankind has misused business in opposition of Gods design. The Lord wanted us to use business as a method to help our brothers and sisters, but people took advantage of that and used it solely for personally gain. Gods purpose for business is evident within Scripture. You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning. Leviticus 19:13 (English Standard Version). Rodney Chrisman offers enlightening ideas in relation to the true purpose of business activity. Chrisman uses various analogies referencing that even though a particular item is used for the purposes of evil, that item does not assume the origin of evil. He states, Food is not inherently evil. In fact, most people would recognize it as a good gift from the Lord. The fact that food misused in an evil way (via gluttony for example) does not render food itself inherently evil. Business is not Evil (Or Neutral) (2010).

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). It is often misconstrued that this scripture tells us money is the root of all evil, when the verse tells us that money can be a main source for evil doings. This verse exemplifies that the love of money can incur evil doings, not that the money is evil. Money, among other things, is a gift from God. The issue is that people sin, and people make bad choices. Unfortunately, money is just one form of enticement for things such as greed and is misused for evil things (Chrisman, 2010). Many things such as sexual activity and food abundance also get misused and lead to sexual exploitation and gluttony.
James 1:17 tells us that Neutrality denies goodness. Since Money is a gift, it should be considered good. Money is a part of Gods creation, just like water and air. People are expected to show self-control and not let an abundance of gifts eliminate their morale. A good example would be gun violence in America. We are provided with guns as a measure of protection as well as a hunting source, the gun does not do evil things, the person behind the weapon loses self-control and misuses the gun, making evil choices. Guns dont kill people, people kill people.
Business activity means more money for the economy, both in and out. Since money is a gift, we can assume success and abundance is as well. Business activity is good, even though some people do take advantage of human financial wellness. Money is not the root of evil, people misusing money is what we can find evil doings.
